Despite the name, a Rubbermaid storage chest is not necessarily made of rubber.  While the Rubbermaid company was built on high quality plastic products, it has since diversified its product line and offers a wide range of storage chests, many of which are made of materials other than plastic or rubber.
Rubbermaid offers a wide range of storage solutions, including portable soft storage chests, some of which even come with cedar inserts!  The cedar repels bugs and helps to prevent molding, which means peace of mind when storing wool clothing or other items that may be attacked by moths.  And while some of these products aren’t necessarily chests, the various storage bins, storage cabinets, and other storage containers should satisfy most storage needs.
Perhaps of most use to most homeowners is the outdoor storage chest offered by Rubbermaid.  These are tough plastic storage boxes and sheds that will keep contents dry and sheltered from the elements.  Strong latches are a must for this type of storage, as winds can blow away lids that are not secure.
The storage cabinets made by Rubbermaid can be great for kitchen use, especially if there’s a chance of getting the cabinet wet in the midst of kitchen activities.  There’s little or no need to worry about denting or staining this plastic; nor will the plastic rust or mildew.  Add to this the fact that the shelves in these cabinets support up to 150 lbs, and you have a pretty heavy duty cabinet that can sustain hard use.  Nor is such a cabinet exclusively for the kitchen- the Rubbermaid is suitable for just about any place you need a functional cabinet that can stand up to abuse.
A Rubbermaid storage bin makes a good general plastic storage chest.  These offer ample room for the storage of almost anything and can be great for storing bulk foods in the pantry.  That way, there’s no need to worry about mice chewing through a paper bag to get to the food inside.
