Sofa suites come in many different combinations.  The “3-piece suite” generally consists of a loveseat (2-seater), sofa (3-seater), and two armchairs and offers versatile seating with multiple arrangement possibilities.  Of course, other combinations are also possible and a sofa plus loveseat combination, or this combination plus an upholstered armchair or recliner is also very popular.  A more modern choice is the sectional living room sofa or corner sofa, which is basically a sofa and loveseat joined together to form an ‘L’ shape.  These can also be joined via a wedge, and offer a continuous seating surface.  These are generally television-oriented, as the opening of the ‘L’ is set to face the television.  Not surprisingly, these sell like hot cakes in America, land of the television addict.  However, these types of sofas do offer practical, stylish seating and some of them make good sleeper sofas because the wide and flat seat cushions can be used for sleeping on directly without relying on a pull-out type sleeper sofa.  American furniture tends to be very large, and this should be kept in mind if you are checking furniture dimensions online especially if you are going to order a corner sofa suite without first having seen it.

Getting a leather sofa suite has its own considerations due to the different grades of leather.  Although Australia is a major producer of beef and thus cow hide, most sofas nowadays are made in China, the factory of the world.  This means a variable leather selection, some of which may be from animals other than cattle or even mixed with synthetic materials like PVC and vinyl (both of which are toxic).  A cheap sofa suite will usually be made of low-quality and/or synthetic leather.  What you want is genuine, full grain leather.  This is the least processed, and therefore most durable leather.  It’s also the most attractive leather and will age beautifully.  Although the cost for good leather is higher, it’s worth it in the long run because it is natural and will outlast all other upholstery materials.

The Mexican pine sideboard may be from Mexico, or it could indicate a sideboard of the Southwestern style.  The Southwestern United States and Mexico can be thought of as one distinct region in many ways, and the similarities of furniture design show how the two places were intimately connected.  You don’t have to buy an antique pine sideboard to get something in this style, as the tradition is alive and well even though new elements have been added.  It’s quite easy to get a solid pine sideboard done in the colonial style, whether through a furniture company or custom-made.  The Corona pine sideboard is a popular choice, for example.  Natural pine with a light wax finish is the norm, as this exposes the warm wood grain of the pine while offering a modest amount of protection.  It is also possible to get a painted pine sideboard, and these can be very suitable for interiors that feature country decor.  A small pine sideboard can be used to add some functional charm to any room.

Pine sideboard furniture is more suited in some ways both as living room furniture and dining room furniture than some of the larger oak sideboards.  They tend to be less obtrusive and have less of the qualities that are associated with formal dining.  For this reason, pine sideboards may be the most versatile of the two.

Portable folding beds are light, cheap, and take up far less space than a normal bed.  Notice, however, that none of these traits makes for a good night’s sleep.  The problem is support- both the lack of it, as well as too much support in inappropriate places.  There are two general models- those that have a sleeping surface suspended on thin air, attached to the frame, and those beds that do the same, except they have a bar in the middle of the bed or at intervals.  Some have thin mattresses, while the army cot style ones have a canvas or similar surface for sleeping on.  The ones that are supported only where they attach to the frame can be decent, though they will tend to sag in the middle.  Having a bar under the middle of the bed means that bar will probably be pushing into your spine all night, causing major problems the next day.  These beds also tend to feel unstable and may squeak.

In contrast, sleeping on the ground seems like a dream.  As long as the floor is reasonably clean, a futon mattress (which can be rolled up when not in use if sufficiently thin) or a thin, inflatable camping pad (see the excellent pads made by Thermarest) can be infinitely more comfortable, not to mention cheaper and easier to store.  Even if the floor is dirty, you can lay out a sheet or tarp over it and set up the sleeping area on top of that.  The floor is solid and won’t feel unstable, and there will be no worries about falling out as there is with single folding beds.

Wall Folding Beds

Other, better alternatives include getting a futon sofa, a bunk bed, or a trundle bed which is stored under another bed when not in use.  Of course, there’s nothing wrong with getting wall folding beds which fold up into the wall, as long as the sleeping surface offers good support.  This will probably require a bit of remodeling, though, as most homes aren’t created to accommodate this type of bed!  Whichever you decide, remember that conventional folding beds should be a last resort, a distant second even to sleeping on the floor.

Wood that is suitable for the outdoors can be the best choice, with teak a clear winner in most cases in terms of durability, rot resistance, and ability to withstand the elements.  However, most teak is not sustainably harvested and you should choose teak that is.  Some research will usually be necessary to determine if teak has been sustainably farmed, though usually the product will make note of this if it is the case.  Other wood chaise lounges will probably not be as good for the outdoor as teak, but many woods that are rot resistant will be nearly as good.

One alternative material is wicker, and this is often sustainably produced.  It won’t hold up as well as teak chaise lounges, especially in a wet environment, but wicker chaise lounges can make an attractive and comfortable chaise lounge.  Resin chaise lounges are often made to look like wicker, and will be more durable for the outdoors.  Double chaise lounges are popular for outdoor use.

Patio chaise lounges are usually similar, though resistance to the elements is not as much of an issue if there is a protective roof over the furniture.  In both cases, people sometimes choose to put a protective cover over the furniture to make it last longer.

Not all accent chairs have to have arms, and armless accent chairs can be great, especially for the modern living room.  The somewhat minimalist design of armless chairs can be tre chic in the right environment.

Though they are often used mostly for decoration, upholstered accent chairs definitely have a practical purpose as well.  When there’s extra company, they serve nicely for seating while at the same time they don’t take up as much space as a regular sofa-type chair would.  They are also much classier than folding metal chairs and won’t look out of place in the living room.

Shopping online can be the way to snag a good deal for those parents searching for cheap bunk beds for kids.  Without resorting to buying used, which can be a perfectly good option, the cheapest deals you find are likely to be metal bunk beds for kids.  These aren’t as warm as wooden bunk beds, neither in terms of looks nor in terms of touch, but they do offer the advantage of being lower cost and in most cases stronger than their wood counterparts.  Not that they look terrible, most metal bunks are simply somewhat generic looking if they are on the lower end of the price scale.  For warm areas, these can be good, but on a cold winter day they might cause some temporary discomfort when climbing up and down the bed.

A Triple Bunk Bed

Parents do have the option to get triple bunk beds for kids if three kids need to share one room.  A triple bunk bed with three beds stacked vertically will save the most space, but it can also be more dangerous due to the increased height.  In hot weather, the top bunk can also be uncomfortably warm.  Heat rises, so this will be true in the wintertime as well.  Keep this in mind when deciding who should sleep in which bunk, it would be a good idea to put kids who get cold more easily up in the higher bunks.
