Bunk Beds for Kids

An Ikea Pine Bunk Bed

There are many reasons why bunk beds for kids are some of the most popular choices for the children’s bedroom.  They are a very economical choice in terms of bedroom furniture for more than one child, and they also offer the huge advantage of maximizing space.  Another factor which is not necessarily practical but shouldn’t be overlooked is that most kids love bunk beds.  They look fun and they provide one of the few opportunities modern kids have to climb something without getting a scolding.  For kids who are even slightly adventurous, bunk beds provide much fodder for the imagination and can add an exciting dimension to bedtime and playtime.

Shopping online can be the way to snag a good deal for those parents searching for cheap bunk beds for kids.  Without resorting to buying used, which can be a perfectly good option, the cheapest deals you find are likely to be metal bunk beds for kids.  These aren’t as warm as wooden bunk beds, neither in terms of looks nor in terms of touch, but they do offer the advantage of being lower cost and in most cases stronger than their wood counterparts.  Not that they look terrible, most metal bunks are simply somewhat generic looking if they are on the lower end of the price scale.  For warm areas, these can be good, but on a cold winter day they might cause some temporary discomfort when climbing up and down the bed.

Another really cheap option for those who prefer wooden bunk beds for kids are pine bunk beds.  These aren’t too expensive, and some (like certain models of Ikea bunk beds for kids) may actually be cheaper than metal bunks.  The Ikea bunk is rather handsome looking, with clean lines that rely on the natural wood for appeal.  Strength may be an issue, however, and you are advised to check out the bed in person or find reviews to see what others have said about a bunk bed you are interested in.  It’s probably okay to get bunk beds for kids cheap, as long as safety isn’t an issue!

A Triple Bunk Bed

Parents do have the option to get triple bunk beds for kids if three kids need to share one room.  A triple bunk bed with three beds stacked vertically will save the most space, but it can also be more dangerous due to the increased height.  In hot weather, the top bunk can also be uncomfortably warm.  Heat rises, so this will be true in the wintertime as well.  Keep this in mind when deciding who should sleep in which bunk, it would be a good idea to put kids who get cold more easily up in the higher bunks.

Another option for triple bunks are futon bunk beds for kids.  This type will be the same height as a regular bunk bed, and the sleeping arrangement would consist of one kid up top, two on the bottom.  Obviously with this arrangement the kids in the bottom two bunks have to be okay sleeping next to each other.
